What is ABS?
The dream of all bike lover of getting a new bike or a car. When you pass this last exam you get your new bike, or after 18 you get your car. And search begins and you get your new bike or car with ABS because your parents care for you. But what is this and why everyone prefers to take a bike that comes with ABS? Why bikes are safer to ride with this? If you want this answer then we are here to help.
WHAT IS ABS(ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM)?
The full form is “Anti-lock braking system”. During hard braking, your tires locked and skids. Because of this, you lose your control on a vehicle and fall down if you are on a bike. Which is a disaster if you are at high speed.
To prevent this type of disaster ABS introduced. It prevents the locking of the wheel while braking in any situation. Anti-lock Braking System was invented by Gabriel Voisin in 1929. And Mercedes-Benz W116 became the first production car which used ABS for the first time. This is the basic history of Anti-lock braking system.
How ABS works?
So, the most important question How it works? While hard braking, your tires get locked. And due to this, tire loose friction with ground and then is it is hard to stop a vehicle and go straight because of skidding.
To prevent this your vehicle equipped with speed sensors on tires which calculates speed. So while hard braking your tires loose speed or decelerate very fast and lock the tire, so sensors read speed of the tire. And when tire losing speed faster then it would be. At that time it reduces the amount of pressure on brake pads for temporarily before tire accelerate again until it would not carry speed which skids tire. And then after, it senses that tires are accelerating and then it applies brakes temporarily. And this thing goes on until the vehicle will not stop.
So, brakes turn on and then off on and then off, to maintain a speed that not skids. And not to lose friction and at last, your bike stops. Almost every bike which is higher than 150cc gets ABS, which is practical for everyone. And gets in option also with some cars and bikes however it will cost less without Anti-lock braking system. But I prefer a car or bike with ABS have better braking and safety.
There are also different types of ABS also like.
- Four Channel, Four Sensor
- Three Channel, Three Sensor
- One Channel, One Sensor
Which we are not going in deep right now this is just types of Anti-lock braking system, Different names with same work preventing locking of tires.
Hope this information helps you. Thanks for visiting and comment below do your car or bike have Equipped with Anti-lock braking system or not.
